Global Health Minor (GHLT)

Program Description

The global health minor is designed for students seeking to understand the interdisciplinary nature of global health and develop the foundational skills to address global health challenges. Students can customize their experience through various foundational and specialized courses, available online or in-person, along with a study abroad option or a global health capstone.  The program is designed to complement a variety of majors.

Admission Requirements

Declared major and a GPA of 2.0 or higher

Program Learning Objectives

Students enrolled in this program will learn to:

Explain global health priorities.
Explain the principles of public health.
Practice using epidemiological tools and environmental health principles to identify public health issues.
Explain the factors that contribute to individual and population health.
Discuss approaches and strategies for identifying, responding to, and intervening in global health issues.
Practice public health strategies to respond to global health issues.
Explain the connections between human health and environmental health.
Assess the roles and responsibilities of agencies implementing public health interventions.
Analyze factors that influence global health outcomes.

Program Learning Outcomes

As a result of their learning experience, graduates of this program can:

Apply epidemiological tools and environmental health principles to assess and address population health.
Prioritize global health initiatives based on interpretation of data.
Examine the connections between human health and environmental health, including considerations of water, sanitation, air quality, urbanization, and/or ecosystem health.
