Program Description:

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering offers a program of graduate study leading to the Master of Science in Computer Engineering degree. The program balances theory, software, hardware, and practice with coursework-only and thesis options available.

Program Prerequisites:

At least one year of formal coursework in computer programming. Formal coursework in data structures, computer organization, and operating systems is also required.

The materials covered in these courses should be equal to Wright State University courses:

  • CS 3100 Data Structures and Algorithms
  • CEG 3310 Computer Organization
  • CEG 4350 Operating Systems Internals and Design

If you do not have a year of formal coursework in computer programming, you may show programming proficiency by:

Students lacking other prerequisite coursework may be assigned additional prerequisite courses upon admission.

Admission Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited program in computer science or equivalent

Minimum 3.0 overall GPA or a minimum 2.7 overall GPA and a 3.0 GPA in selected computer science, computer engineering and mathematics courses.

GRE General Test scores are required but are waived for WSU-CECS applicants with a BA or BS degree and a minimum GPA of 3.3, for applicants from a U.S. institution with a graduate degree in engineering, science or mathematics; or for applicants providing evidence of superior research accomplishments or potential

Program Learning Outcomes:

Graduates of the Master's of Science program in Computer Engineering shall:

  • Have the ability to apply abstract reasoning to complex problems in computer engineering, and
  • Have the ability to solve a broad range of problems through the application of current computer engineering techniques.

Program Requirements:


Minimum 30 CS/CEG graduate credit hours.  At least 16 hours must be CEG.

6 hours of core coursework (See Below)

12 additional credit hours of formal CS/CEG coursework at the 7000/8000 level

Maximum of 12 credit hours at 6000 level, including a maximum of 3 hours of independent study

Completion of all requirements in 6 years

Dept Core and Electives: Non-thesis option


CEG core coursework: 6 Hours

Formal CEG coursework at the 7000/8000 level: 12 Hours

Coursework 6000 level: 12 Hours maximum

Including 3 hours maximum of Independent Study

Total: 30 Hours minimum


Thesis Option Concentration
