Lean Ergonomics for Manufacturing and Health Care Graduate Certificate

Program Description

The Lean-Ergonomics for Manufacturing and Healthcare certificate is offered by the College of Engineering and Computer Science.  Students must be enrolled as a graduate student and the certificate may be completed as a stand alone certificate or within the MSIHE or MSBME degree programs.  It can be completed through distance education. No GRE is required. This certificate program is to enhance the technical expertise in ergonomics and lean manufacturing, which also has healthcare applications.  Upon completion of this certificate program, the graduate will be knowledgeable in the utilization of ergonomics and lean manufacturing methods in industrial and/or healthcare environments.

Admission Requirements

Admitted graduate students enrolled in a WSU degree program must complete a departmental certificate entrance form indicating the intent to be enrolled in the certificate program.  

Non-degree seeking applicants who plan to complete only the certificate must apply through the Graduate School.  Minimum criteria is a completed bachelor’s degree with a 2.7 or higher GPA.  Preference is given to students with a 3.0 or higher GPA from a completed bachelor’s degree in a STEM field.       

Program Learning Objectives

Students enrolled in the Lean Ergonomics for Manufacturing and Healthcare Certificate will learn to:

  • Apply technical expertise in ergonomics and lean manufacturing.
  • Utilize ergonomics and lean manufacturing methods in industrial and healthcare environments.

As a result of their learning experience, students who complete this certificate program can:

Students who are ineligible to take BME/IHE 6310, IHE 6810, and/or BME/IHE 6850 should select one or both of these courses, only as necessary, to fulfill certificate requirements.
