Mass Communication (GPS)


This plan outlines a four-year path to graduation. You are expected to satisfy all “success marker” courses, grades, and GPAs as specifi ed. For part-time students and students needing to complete background material, this schedule represents the order in which courses should be taken. This suggested plan to four-year graduation does not replace regular advising appointments. Some course offerings may change.

SUCCESS MARKERS: Maintain GPA of 2.5 or better; complete ENG 1100  with C or better

Term Two


Total: 15 Credit Hours


SUCCESS MARKERS: Maintain GPA of 2.5 or better.

Term Three


Total: 16 Credit Hours


SUCCESS MARKERS: Maintain GPA of 2.5 or better; complete COM 1010 , COM 1040 , COM 1520 , and COM 2560 ; complete one MTH course; complete one language course

Term Four


Total: 16 Credit Hours


SUCCESS MARKERS: Maintain GPA of 2.5 or better; complete ENG 2100  with C or better

Term Five


Total: 15 Credit Hours


SUCCESS MARKERS: Maintain GPA of 2.5 or better.

Term Six


Total: 15 Credit Hours


SUCCESS MARKERS: Maintain GPA of 2.5 or better; complete 20 upper-level credits

Term Seven


Total: 16 Credit Hours


SUCCESS MARKERS: Maintain GPA of 2.5 or better

Program Description


The central focus of the Department of Communication is analysis of how human beings create, transmit, receive, and respond to messages. The department provides curricula designed to increase an individual’s intellectual, organizational, and social abilities, which can be applied to a variety of contexts, including interpersonal, organizational, and mass-mediated settings.

The department’s curricular offerings integrated theory and practice with the goal of cultivating communication competence.
