BIO 4490 - Genetic Screens using RNAi

Students will perform original research in the fields of developmental and reproductive biology by using planarian screens to identify genes expressed in the reproductive system and required for development of eggs and sperm. Cloned genes in bacterial vectors will then be used to determine whether genes are expressed in the reproductive system, and perform loss-of-function experiments by RNA-interference (RNAi). This will uncover molecular mechanisms required for developmental function.
