Computer Science Minor


Program Description

The minor in computer science is designed for students enrolled in an engineering, math or science related major, but open to all majors.   Computer science is applicable to almost any major and career choice.   The goal of the minor is to provide a background in programming, algorithms and discrete mathematics.   In addition, students are introduced to operating systems and computer organization. 

Admission Requirements: Students must have a 2.5 GPA or higher.

Learning Outcomes:

1.    Students will be able to implement data structures and control structures to design software to solve practical problems.

2.    Students will become familiar with operating system concepts and file systems from a programmer’s perspective.

3.    Students will become familiar with mathematical operations, formalisms, and models necessary to appreciate the capabilities and limits of modern computers

4.   Students will become familiar with the basic organization of computing hardware from digital logic and devices to instruction set architecture.
