Introduction to Defense Acquisition and Contracting Undergraduate Certificate


Program Description

This program aims to establish general education, training, and experience for those interested in performing contracting and procurement activities and functions in, or interacting with, the Department of Defense. This program will attract current Wright State students and the federal civilian acquisition workforce in and potentially beyond the Dayton region.

Admission Requirements

Students need to be admitted to Wright State University and may be admitted for the certificate program only. If not a current Wright State student, the prospective student would need to submit a non-degree application. All prospective students also need to submit an application to the certificate program. The certificate program is available to any Wright State University student, regardless of major or graduate/undergraduate standing.               

Non-business students will not be required to fulfill the prerequisite requirement to complete the BUS Tier II 7 curriculum.

Program Learning Objectives

Students enrolled in the Introduction to Defense Acquisition and Contracting program will learn to:

  • Recognize the key drivers of the Department of Defense (DoD) acquisition process
  • Understand the fundamentals of integrated acquisition processes in the DoD    
  • Understand the resource allocation process in DoD acquisition management
  • Apply skills to work effectively with teams in the DoD and federal government
  • Determine the applicability of policies and procedures in FAR, DFARS, and DoD class deviations
  • Understand the fundamentals of DoD contracting
  • Differentiate between types of contracts, and apply the policies and procedures for the use in the DoD

Program Learning Outcomes

As a result of their learning experience, graduates of the Introduction to Defense Acquisition and Contracting program can:

  • Understand the basics of how the DoD operates and manages its business functions
  • Understand the fundamentals of integrated acquisition processes in the DoD    
  • Understand the basics of federal acquisition regulations
  • Apply skills to work effectively with teams in the DoD and federal government
  • Understand the fundamentals of DoD contracting
