*Classics majors take a minimum of 5 semesters of Classical language, either Latin or Greek; 4 semesters double count as CoLA language requirement.

**Classics majors are encouraged to take CLS 1500  & CLS 1600 , which double count as both Core and CLS electives.

GRADUATION REQUIRES 120 TOTAL CREDIT HOURS.  42 HOURS MUST BE AT THE 3000 LEVEL OR ABOVE.  This plan outlines a four-year path to graduation.  You are expected to satisfy all “success marker” courses, grades, and GPAs as specified.  For part-time students and students needing to complete background material, this schedule represents the suggested order in which courses should be taken.  This suggested plan does not replace regular advising appointments.  Some course offerings may change.

Program Description

Classics is the study of the cultures of ancient Greece and Rome. Both cultures have had a profound influence on life in the western world, especially in areas of language and literature, art and architecture, politics and religion, science and philosophy. The Classics department at Wright State offers classes in most of these areas.

The Classical Humanities major allows students to take a wide range of courses. Students are required to take a minimum of 5 semesters of a Classical language, either Latin or Greek, and are encouraged to take a second Classical language as an elective. Additional electives cover courses in a diverse range of subjects relating to the study of the Classical world.

For students interested in intensive study of a Classical language, the department offers a BA in Latin and a BA in Greek. Students interested in teaching Latin enroll in the Latin Licensure program, which the department offers in conjunction with Wright State’s College of Education and Human Services.
