Program Description:

The Instructional Design for Digital Learning 2 (IDDL-2) certificate program addresses the research, theory, and research methodologies associated with the effective design of online and blended-learning classes.  The purpose of this certificate is to provide a research-oriented perspective on instructional design and evaluation practices.

Like the IDDL-1 program, the IDDL-2 also is taught in an online environment.  Classes are designed using the most current research on effective online pedagogies, so participants will not only learn about effective teaching practices but also get to experience them as a student.  Classes include a synchronous weekly webinar but sessions are recorded for participants who cannot attend the “live” session.

There are five exciting course options available in the IDDL-2 program.  Students choose four courses (12 credit hours) to receive the certificate.  Refer to the Program of Study for the full list of available courses.  Note:  A foundational/prerequisite course for the IDDL-2 program is EDT 8110  (Learning in Digital World), previously called EDL 7200 ((Analysis of Teaching).

Topics discussed in IDDL-2 courses include:

  • Cognitive load theory
  • Cognitive theory of multimedia learning
  • Use of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods research designs
  • Scholarship of teaching and learning
  • Literature reviews
  • Ethics and digital citizenship
