Program Description

This program provides a basic examination of issues/problems experienced by diverse populations within the US criminal justice system.  

Program Admissions Requirements

This academic program does not have admission requirements beyond regular admission to Wright State University.  Any student is eligible to declare this academic program. 

Program Learning Objectives 

Students will learn to:

  • Understand the basic structure of the US criminal justice system.
  • Explore diverse treatment within the US criminal justice system based on one's race, class, sex, gender, and/or disability.
  • Explore the causes of diverse treatment within the US criminal justice system based on race, class, sex, gender, or disability.  

Program Learning Outcomes

Students successfully completing the course can:

  • Describe the basic structure of the US criminal justice system.  
  • Identify specific issues faced by diverse groups within the US criminal justice system.  
  • Explain the specific causes of disparity in the US criminal justice system for diverse groups of Americans.

Required Courses


Students successfully completing (with a C or better) SOC 2700 (Required) and one additional upper-level elective will earn the Cultural Awareness in Crime and Justice Studies- Basic Undergraduate Microcredential—6 total credit hours.
