Program Description

The Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (BSET) offers students a foundation in mechanical, electrical, and industrial engineering and technology through an interdisciplinary program. The coursework within the program comprises a technical core covering engineering and computer science topics, aimed at preparing students for real-world applications, as well as a focus area in industrial and systems engineering or electrical engineering, for a comprehensive curriculum of modern engineering design skills. Additionally, the BSET program includes selection of an area of emphasis, with courses in Computing and Information Technology, Business Analytics, or technical elective block (available to transfer students with an earned associate's degree in an engineering technology field). This program prepares students for careers in a variety of engineering fields, including for example: automated manufacturing, quality control; product development and design; software development and design; system development and design; field service engineering; and systems engineering. Students will also be prepared for project management and business operations environments.

Program Admission Requirements

Engineering Technology students must meet the following requirements for full admission to the BSET program:

  • Completion of 24 or more credit hours of college-level work
  • Obtain a 2.25 cumulative GPA at Wright State University
  • Obtain a C or higher in ENG 1100

Program Learning Objectives

Students enrolled in this program will learn to:

  • be professionally employed in a technical or supervisory position or pursuing advanced training
  • be actively involved in professional development activities
  • be leading or participating as a member of project teams
  • be developing expertise in a specialized area, such as through the pursuit of technical certifications, or broadening their base of knowledge

Program Learning Outcomes

As a result of their learning experience, graduates of this program can:

  • apply knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline
  • design systems, components, or processes meeting specified needs for broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline
  • apply written, oral, and graphical communication in broadly-defined technical and non-technical environments; identify and use appropriate technical literature
  • conduct standard tests, measurements, and experiments and to analyze and interpret the results to improve processes
  • function effectively as a member as well as a leader on technical teams
