Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Minor (WGSS)

Program Description

An undergraduate minor in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies can be completed by degree-seeking students who wish to enhance their program of study with knowledge of feminist theory, methods of inquiry, activism, and of gender and sexuality in multicultural and global contexts.

Program Learning Objectives

Students in the minor in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies will:

Develop a comprehensive understanding of scholarship and activism related to women, gender, and sexuality within multicultural and global contexts.
Gain knowledge of the history of U.S. women’s movements and the theoretical foundations of feminism and sexuality studies in academic settings.
Understand the concepts of experience and identity as they relate to gender and sexuality.
Enhance critical thinking, and strengthen written and oral communication skills, with a focus on interdisciplinary approaches to the study of gender and sexuality within the Liberal Arts.

Program Learning Outcomes

Graduates with a minor in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies can:

Demonstrate a thorough understanding of scholarship and activism related to women, gender, and sexuality in both multicultural and global contexts.
Articulate the historical significance of U.S. women’s movements and apply the theoretical foundations of feminism and sexuality studies.
Analyze and discuss concepts of experience and identity as they relate to gender and sexuality.
Exhibit strong critical thinking, and effective written and oral communication skills, integrating interdisciplinary perspectives on gender and sexuality within the Liberal Arts.
