Program Description
The finance major offers three (3) finance-related concentrations and provides a strong foundation in financial management and investments. The program includes a core set of courses that cover all aspects of the financial theory and practice. After completing this core, students can select from three concentrations: General Finance, Investments, and Business Analytics.
For students selecting an Investment concentration, the curriculum includes courses such as Quantitative Finance, Fintech, Fixed Income Securities Analysis, and Analysis of Corporate Financial Information. This concentration closely aligns with the Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK) required for the Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA) exams and is part of the CFA Institute University Affiliation Program, covering more than 70% of the requisite material. Graduates in this track can pursue careers in investment management, including roles such as securities analyst, portfolio manager, relationship manager, or trust officer.
For students selecting a Business Analytics concentration, the curriculum includes core finance courses in Financial Management, Investing, International Finance, and Accounting, along with specialized courses in business analytics, such as Introduction to Quantitative Finance, Econometrics, Forecasting, Introduction to Business Data, Data Visualization for Business. This concentration prepares students for roles such as data analyst, credit analyst, research analyst or perhaps quantitative securities trader.
For those interested in a General Finance path, students have the flexibility to design their own finance concentration with guidance from the Field.
Additionally, students with an interest in both Finance and Accounting may consider a dual major in Finance and Accounting. Those interested should contact an academic advisor for more information.

Graduation Planning Strategy
A Graduation Planning Strategy (GPS), also known as a four-year guide, is an academic tool showing one example of how a program can be completed in a certain amount of time. All Wright State undergraduate majors can be completed in four years with careful planning. Some programs may require summer coursework. Time to degree is dependent on many factors including student placement in mathematics and writing courses, CCP and AP coursework, transfer coursework, and other variables. These guides are valid for this year’s Academic Catalog only and are subject to change. These guides are a recommendation only and your actual program may vary. Students should consult with their academic advisor on a regular basis and create a personalized plan to degree completion. |
