Program Description
This program provides a basic examination of issues/problems experienced by diverse populations within the US criminal justice system.
Program Learning Objectives
Students will learn to:
- Understand the basic structure of the US criminal justice system.
- Explore diverse treatment within the US criminal justice system based on one’s race, class, sex, gender, and/or disability.
- Explore the causes of diverse treatment within the US criminal justice system based on race, class, sex, gender, or disability.
Program Learning Outcomes
Students successfully completing the course can:
- Describe the basic structure of the US criminal justice system.
- Identify specific issues faced by diverse groups within the US criminal justice system.
- Explain the specific causes of disparity in the US criminal justice system for diverse groups of Americans.

Program Requirements
Students successfully completing (with a C or better) SOC 2700 (Required) and one additional upper-level elective will earn the Diversity in CJS Microcredential—6 total credit hours.
