Program Description

This program provides a basic examination of issues/problems experienced by diverse populations within the US criminal justice system.

Program Learning Objectives

Students will learn to:

Understand the basic structure of the US criminal justice system.
Explore diverse treatment within the US criminal justice system based on one’s race, class, sex, gender, and/or disability.
Explore the causes of diverse treatment within the US criminal justice system based on race, class, sex, gender, or disability.

Program Learning Outcomes

Students successfully completing the course can:

Describe the basic structure of the US criminal justice system.
Identify specific issues faced by diverse groups within the US criminal justice system.
Explain the specific causes of disparity in the US criminal justice system for diverse groups of Americans.

Students successfully completing (with a C or better) SOC 2700 (Required) and one additional upper-level elective will earn the Diversity in CJS Microcredential—6 total credit hours.
