These individuals receive extensive coursework and hands-on training in traditional office skills, the latest software applications and supervisory and managerial skills. Emphasis is placed on managing the information flow in the office, handling client/customer relations, providing effective communication within the organization and with the general public and the business community, solving problems and making decisions, and supervising other workers.
The administrative assistant in today’s business world is a professional who must make decisions and project and use communication skills and writing expertise to advance the public image of the executive for whom he or she works. Administrative assistants must be proficient in all areas of the office procedure and be skilled in operating office equipment in addition to assisting the executive. The Office Information Systems Program encompasses all of the necessary skills while giving the student a well-rounded background.
