Program Description:
The Department of Electrical Engineering offers a program of graduate study leading to a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (M.S.E.E.) degree. The M.S.E.E. program is broad in scope and emphasizes portable concepts in the design and analysis of complex physical systems using modeling, synthesis, and optimization techniques, and bridges interdisciplinary engineering areas such as control systems, microwave engineering, power electronics, signal processing, very large scale integrated circuits (VLSI), and wireless communications. Admissions Requirements:
To be considered for admission to the M.S.E.E. program, students must first satisfy basic requirements of the Graduate School. This includes having a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related area with an overall undergraduate grade point average of at least 2.9 on a 4.0 scale. International students must have a TOEFL score of at least 550 on the paper-based exam or 213 on the computer-based exam or 79 on the internet based exam or IELTS score of minimum 6.0. In addition, the program requires students from non-ABET accredited undergraduate programs to submit general GRE test scores and the preferred combined (verbal and quantitative) GRE score is of minimum 290. Program admission decisions are based on complete application information including overall academic performance and standardized test scores where applicable. A student may be admitted to the program on a conditional status. Typically, a conditionally admitted student is required to achieve 3.0 GPA of the first two graduate courses (6-8 credit hours) specified by a department advisor. A student with an undergraduate academic deficiency may petition for admission after demonstrating the ability to perform well in graduate courses taken in a non-degree status.
Program Learning Outcomes:
Graduates of the Master's of Science in Electrical Engineering program shall:
- Have the ability to synthesize diverse electrical engineering concepts to solve complex problems, and
- Have the ability to bring current analyses and tools to bear on a wide range of problems, and
- Have the ability to model, analyze, simulate, and realize new electrical engineering technologies through the application of current theory, design, and validation techniques.

Graduation Requirements
- Submit a Program of Study, conforming to the following requirements, with approval by the Graduate Program Director by the end of the first semester.
- Complete at least 30 graduate credit hours (WSU courses numbered 6000 or above) with the following restrictions:
- At least 24 of the 30 graduate credit hours must be EE prefix courses.
- At least 18 of the 30 graduate credit hours must be numbered 7000 or above.
- At least 12 of the 18 7000 level credit hours must be EE prefix courses.
- A successfully advised and defended Thesis may count at most 9 graduate credit hours (through “P” grades in EE 7990) toward graduation for thesis-option students.
- At most 2 credit hours of “Independent Study” (through “P” grades in EE 7900) may be counted toward graduation.
- At most 8 hours of Graduate-Program-Director-approved graduate transfer credit may be applied toward graduation.
- Elective graduate courses counting toward graduation must be selected from a list available from the EE department.
- No more than 6 graduate credit hours of C grades may be counted toward graduation. Of the maximum total of 6 graduate credit hours of C, no more than 2 of these may correspond to Laboratory courses.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required for graduation.
- Each MSEE student may choose to complete at least three (3) courses from at least one of the major areas below with at least two of these at the 7xxx level, or customize a series of courses with departmental approval.
