Geographic Information Science Certificate


Program Description:

This program provides extended training in the areas of Geographic Information Systems, Cartography, and Remote Sensing in order to complement a major field of study. Students learn the latest developments in data collection and analysis techniques, aerial and space cameras and sensors, photographic materials and reproductive processes, and mapping procedures, including computer mapping. Successful completion of the Certificate Program requires the student to carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 for these five courses.

Admission Requirements:

Any degree-seeking WSU student may apply to the program by meeting with the certificate advisor. If not a current degree-seeking student, applicants may apply as non-degree and meet with the certificate advisor to be admitted into the certificate program only.

Program Learning Outcomes:

Students will develop an understanding of the central theory and technical skills associated with geographic information science 

Students will learn how to generate, manage, and analyze spatial data and geographic knowledge 

Students will be able to create maps and examine geographic representations of information
