Program Description:

The Liberal Studies Associate of Arts major allows students to tailor their academic program to their needs and interests across a wide range of disciplines. This program is designed for students seeking a more interdisciplinary educational experience than is available with other majors.

An A.A. in Liberal Studies prepares students for a variety of entry-level careers or for a seamless articulation into the baccalaureate degrees in Liberal Studies or Organizational Leadership programs. The program can serve as a pre-law curriculum.

Program Requirements:


I. Wright State Core: 38 Hours


Element 1: Communication: 6 Hours


Element 2: Mathematics: 3 Hours


Element 3: Global Traditions: 6 Hours


Element 4: Arts/Humanities: 3 Hours


Element 5: Social Sciences: 6 Hours


Element 6: Natural Sciences: 8 Hours


Additional Core Courses: 6 Hours


Multicultural Competence (MC)


Two Multicultural Competence (MC) Core courses are required.

Writing Across the Curriculum (IW)


Two Integrated Writing (IW) Core courses are required

II. Departmental Requirements: 12 Hours


Core curriculum:


4 courses in 3 areas:

Fine Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences

Students must take at least one course in each of the areas.

III. Related Requirements: 6 Hours


  • Beginning Language Course (1010 level) Credit Hour(s): 3
  • Beginning Language Course (1020 level) Credit Hour(s): 3

IV. Electives: 4 Hours


Total: 60 Hours


Students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies should take intermediate language courses 2010 and 2020 prior to matriculation.

Graduation Planning Strategy


The Graduation Planning Strategy (GPS) has been created to illustrate one option to complete degree requirements within a particular time frame. Students are encouraged to meet with their academic advisor to adjust this plan based on credit already earned, individual needs or curricular changes that may not be reflected in this year’s catalog.
