Program Description:
The Instructional Design and Learning Technologies master’s degree program is designed to help students achieve the skills and dispositions related to working in a variety of careers within education, educational technology, instructional design, and training fields. Students learn evidence-based instructional design strategies and how to implement them in various learning environments, essential learning technology skills, and key steps of the instructional design process. This fully online program can be completed in five semesters. This program does not lead to an initial teaching license.
Admission Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.7 or higher
- GPA of 3.0 or higher on any previous graduate work, if applicable
- Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or Miller Analogies Test (MAT) scores in the 50th percentile or better.
- Entrance Essay: Please include a short essay with your application that answers the following questions (see below). Your essay should not exceed 1,000 words or two pages (whichever comes first). You will upload the essay to your application.
- Why do you want to become an Instructional Designer or take these courses about Instructional Design?
- Please provide specific examples describing your experience using educational technologies, multimedia technologies, or other technologies and how these experiences would help you to become an Instructional Designer. Examples of relevant experience could include, but are not limited to, training classes, certificates, minors, or degrees in these areas. Provide links to examples of work samples or a digital portfolio, if applicable.
*NOTE: The entrance essay is waived for those transitioning from the IDDL-1 Certificate to the M.Ed.
Two Options to Waive the GRE Exam or MAT Exam
- Option 1: The requirement to take the GRE or MAT exam is waived if the applicant’s cumulative undergraduate GPA (from all schools attended) was 3.0 or higher or if the applicant has a previous master’s degree.
- Option 2: The requirement to take the GRE or MAT exam is waived if the applicant was accepted to Wright State University’s IDDL-1 certificate program and receives a cumulative grade point of 3.5 or higher for the first three IDDL-1 courses. A cumulative grade point of 3.5 or higher for these three courses must be earned in the first attempt and cannot be earned through course repeats.
**NOTE: The student is responsible for all application fees for the certificate and M.Ed. programs.
Admission Process:
- Apply to Graduate School.
- Submit to the Graduate School:
- Official transcripts from all colleges and universities previously attended (except WSU).
- Official GRE or MAT scores if applicable.
- Statement of goals and objectives which can be uploaded as part of application.
- International applicants should refer to the International Gateway website for any additional application requirements.
Program Learning Outcomes:
Graduates of the program will be able to:
- Design and develop effective digital educational materials using technologies such as PowerPoints, videos, and simulations.
- Learn how to use educational technologies such a learning management system, web conferencing, video editors, and image editors.
- Analyze educational theories to utilize while designing courses to improve students’ learning.

Health Professions Applications Concentration
Optional Internship: 1-3 Hours
* Notes:
- The required first class for the M.Ed. is EDT 8110
- For graduation, students must successfully complete all courses and also have a completed Electronic Portfolio
Instructional Design for Digital Learning (IDDL)
Educationall Technology IDDL Concentration Classes: 12 Hours
Educational Technology Ed Tech Core Classes: 18 Hours
Optional Internship: 1-3 Hours
* Notes:
- All classes in this program are 100% online.
- Students will have the option to complete a 1-3 hour internship, in addition to classes in this M.Ed.
- The required first class for the M.Ed. is EDT 8110 . This is where the electronic portfolio is set up and students must maintain throughout the program. Each class will have required portfolio components that must be completed as part of each course.
- The exit requirement for graduation is a completed portfolio and successful completion of all courses.
