German Minor

Program Description:

A minor in a foreign language greatly enhances a student's career prospects. The minor in German requires a minimum of 18 credit hours selected from courses at the 2000 level or above.

Incoming students can have applicable credits transcribed based on transfer credit evaluation, PLA or proficiency testing. At least 2 courses (6 credits) must be taken at Wright State.

Admissions Requirements

The minor is open to any enrolled student who has completed 1) GER 1010 and 1020 with a grade of C or better or 2) the equivalent.  

Program Learning Outcomes:

  • Be able to understand, speak, read and write German at an “Intermediate Mid” level as defined by the proficiency criteria of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.
  •     Understand and respect cultural differences leading to effective interaction within a German-speaking society and in any culturally complex situation.
  •     Have a foundation in one or more of the following areas: geography, history and literary tradition of the German-speaking world.
  •     Understand the impact Germany and German culture and language have had and continue to have on other cultures.
  •     Develop strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
