Program Description:
The Educational Studies degree program is offered at the undergraduate level and provides a Bachelor’s of Science in Education (B.S.Ed.) degree for candidates desiring to gain knowledge and experience working with students in grades K-12 and/or community work, but who do not want to obtain a professional teaching license. The program provides candidates insight on the processes of teaching and learning.
Learning Outcomes:
- Demonstrate familiarity with the major philosophical and sociological perspectives concerning schooling.
- Understand P-12 learner differences and ways to positively engage with P-12 learners.
- Explore a variety of pedagogical approaches and their purposes.
- Understand a variety of assessment practices.
- Demonstrate familiarity with current issues in education.
Admission Requirements:
Cumulative GPA of 2.75
Grade of “C” or better in all education content courses
Dispositional Assessment: Candidate Disposition Inventory (CDI) from ED 2650 OR ED 2750
One of the following Reading scores:
o ACT Reading score of 22 or better
o SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing score of 543 or better
o ETS Praxis Core Reading score of 168 or better
One of the following Math scores:
o ACT Math score of 22 or better
o SAT Math score of 533 or better
o ETS Praxis Core Math score of 162 or better
One of the following Writing scores:
o ACT Writing score of 6 or better (effective Fall 2021)
o SAT Essay-Writing Dimension score of 5 or better
o ETS Praxis Core Writing score of 165 or better
Program/Department Links:
There are no new courses in this program. This program is comprised of existing courses within the B.S.Ed programs of Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education P-5, Middle Childhood, and Intervention Specialist Education. Non-TED requirements are courses that already exists as part of majors/minors/certificates across campus. This program allows students to earn their bachelor’s degree without completing the requirements for teacher licensure, which include student teaching.
