Multi-Age Licensure

Program Description

This program will lead to an Ohio Teaching license for grades preK-12 in either Computer Information Science, World Languages, or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.

Licensure and certification requirements vary from state to state, and we have not determined if this program meets educational requirements outside of Ohio.  If you are planning to pursue professional licensure or certification in a state other than Ohio, please contact the appropriate licensing entity in that state to seek information and guidance regarding that state’s licensure or certification requirements.

Admission Requirements

A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale

A grade of “C” or better in all required, respective, content courses

A grade of “C” or better in ED 2600, ED 2700, EDS 2900

A grade of “P” in ED 2650 and ED 2750

Currently enrolled in one of the following programs (or completion of a comparable program)

  • A World Languages Program
  • A Computer Science Program
  • The TESOL Program

One of the following Reading scores:

  • ACT Reading score of 22 or better
  • SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing score of 543 or better
  • ETS Praxis Core Reading score of 168 or better

One of the following Math scores:

  • ACT Math score of 22 or better
  • SAT Math score of 533 or better
  • ETS Praxis Core Math score of 162 or better

One of the following Writing scores:

  • ACT Writing score of 6 or better
  • SAT Essay-Writing Dimension score of 5 or better
  • ETS Praxis Core Writing score of 165 or better

Dispositional Assessment: Candidate Disposition Inventory (CDI) from ED 2650 and ED 2750

Ohio Computer Information Science Standards : Computer Information Science (CIS) Concentration

  • Standard 1. Candidates have knowledge of the foundations of computer information science.
  • Standard 2. Candidates have knowledge of instructional strategies as they relate to computer information science.
  • Standard 3. Candidates have knowledge of the learner, equity, efficacy, and the environment.
  • Standard 4. Candidates have knowledge of assessment strategies for computer information science.
  • Standard 5. Candidates have knowledge of professional development.
  • Standard 6. Candidates have knowledge of field experiences and clinical practices as they relate to the teaching of computer information science.

Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL): TESOL Concentration

  • Standard 1. Language - candidates know, understand , and use the major theories and research related to the structure and acquisition of language to help English language leaners’ (ELLs’) develop language and literacy and achieve in the content areas. Issues of language structure and language acquisition development are interrelated.
  • Standard 2. Culture - candidates know, understand and use major concepts, principles, theories, and research related to the nature and role of culture and cultural groups to construct supportive learning environments for ELLS.  
  • Standard 3. Planning, Implementing, and Managing Instruction - candidates know, understand, and use evidence-based practices and strategies related to planning, implementing, and managing standards-based ESL and content instruction. Candidates are knowledgeable about program models and skilled in teaching strategies for developing and integrating language skills. They integrate technology as well as choose and adapt classroom resources appropriate for their ELLs. Planning for Standards-Based ESL and
  • Standard 4. Candidates demonstrate understanding of issues and concepts of assessment and use standards-based procedures with ELLs
  • Standard 5. Professionalism - candidates keep current with new instructional techniques, research results, advances in the ESL field, and education policy issues and demonstrate knowledge of the history of ESL teaching. They use such information to reflect on and improve their instruction and assessment practices. Candidates work collaboratively with school staff and the community to improve the learning environment, provide support, and advocate for ELLs and their families.
