Program Description:

The Career and Technical bachelor’s degree is designed for students who are employed as Career and Technical Education instructors and who possess job-relevant competence.  Several courses are available via web-based instruction even though courses are typically delivered in a traditional classroom setting providing interaction among teacher education faculty, pre-service teachers, and guest speakers.  Opportunities also exist for interpersonal and social contact, observation of non-verbal communication, and role modeling.  Emphasis in this program of study is on assisting pre-service teachers with the transition from business/industry to education.

Admission Requirements:

Students are eligible to apply to the program once they have completed at least 30 semester credit hours and have earned a 2.5 or better GPA at Wright State.

Program Learning Outcomes:

  • Assemble a portfolio that contains all components necessary to demonstrate standards required by the Ohio Department of Education (Ohio CTE Licensure Standards) and the Ohio Department of Higher Education  (Ohio Standards for the Teaching Profession) have been met,
  • Demonstrate that professional disposition deemed imperative by the Wright State College of Education and Human Services is met.

I. Wright State Core: 38 Hours


Element 1: Communication: 6 Hours


Element 2: Mathematics: 3 Hours


Element 3: Global Traditions: 6 Hours


Element 4: Arts & Humanities: 3 Hours

Element 6: Natural Sciences: 8 Hours

A. Technical Content: 27 Hours


Complete 27-semester hrs. of Technical Content related to the CTE program listed on the candidate’s Ohio license. NOCTI credit-by-exam and content credit earned as part of an associate’s degree may be applied here. Obtain approval from the CTE Program Advisor before completing this section to assure credit may be applied to this section.

B. Teacher Education: 19 Hours


Complete 19-semester hrs. of teacher education coursework (i.e. CTE, ED, EDS, EDT). Obtain approval from the CTE Program Advisor before completing this section to assure credit may be applied to this section.
