REL 5470 - Zen Buddhism Credit Hour(s): 3
Course Description: Survey of the history, doctrines, and practices of Zen Buddhism in China, Japan, and the West. Focus on important contributions and innovations of seminal figures in the tradition such as: Bodhidharma, Huineng, and Linji in China; and Eisai, Dogen, and Hakuin in Japan. Particular attention devoted to Zen meditative practices, understandings of enlightenment, influence on art and culture, and distinctiveness as a school of Buddhism.
Enrollment Restrictions: Must be enrolled in one of the following levels: Graduate, Medical, Professional.
