PHL 3050 - 19th Century Philosophy Credit Hour(s): 3
Course Description: Study of 19th century European philosophy. Topics include the idealist rejection of materialism by Hegel and Schopenhauer; Kierkegaard and Nietzsche’s critique of rationalism on behalf of concrete existence; and Marx’s synthesis of idealism’s optimism about humanity’s ability to shape its world and a commitment to the material world over the ideal.
