SW 7190 - Research Methods for Advanced Generalist

This course is designed to provide students with a learning experience aimed at demonstrating the ability to articulate, consolidate, analyze, evaluate, apply, and synthesize research, theory, knowledge, and skills in social work. The course, as an integrating experience, reminds students of and has them apply key concepts of their education such as evidence-informed practice/research, strengths approach, diversity, social justice, empowerment, and critical thinking. The course also requires a demonstration of an integration of social work knowledge, while being adaptable to each student’s interests and their practice situation. The focus will be placed on the utilization and selection of methodological techniques and applications in qualitative, single system, and group evaluation designs. The course will help students critique, develop, and conduct practice evaluations. Students will learn the nature of evaluation and the application of social work values and ethics in using evaluation procedures and results, and understand the implications on social justice and diversity. The course examines various designs and philosophies to evaluate aspects of social work practice effectiveness and is aimed at demonstrating the feasibility and value of the integration of research and practice.
Enrollment Restrictions: Must be enrolled in one of the following Levels: Graduate, Medical, Professional. Must be enrolled in one of the following Programs: WSU-MU Social Work - MA, WSU-MU Social Work - MA.
